Heroin Treatment: You Need The Right Insurance

By Miss Queeny

If you are like me, you probably have a heart that wants to help people. Heroin addicts are calling treatment centers at an alarming rate these days. However, most addicts are not being helped because they do not have the correct medical insurance for treatment. Today, medical insurance is confusing. Most people have no idea what their benefits will actually pay. Most addicts today are asking themselves, "How can I get help for my addiction if everyone is telling me that my insurance cannot be accepted at their facility?"

A medical biller has a tough job coding all day. ICD-10 is difficult for a lot of coders because it's new and requires strong effort. It is important to look at your insurance policy and ask important questions. However, how can an addict ask questions if they don't even know the difference between and HMO, PPO or a substance abuse extension? What does an addict do in order to find treatment, hope and somewhere to go? This is a problem between medical billers, insurance agents, hospitals and the government. The United States must come up with a better plan to help addicts.

If someone is telling you that they need help because they are suffering from an addiction, an insurance agent needs to learn more about substance abuse extensions on an insurance policy. We have a growing heroin epidemic in the United States right now. Most addicts that call a drug and alcohol treatment facility cannot get the help that they need because they cannot afford to get into a program. Treatment is expensive for addicts that do not have insurance. Unfortunately, most families don't understand how insurance works either.

Unfortunately, insurance costs people a lot of money. Most people say that they cannot afford to get good enough medical insurance for treatment. Getting an insurance policy that is good enough to pay for treatment is an investment. Most families are looking for cheaper plans because their jobs are not paying them enough to get better insurance. There is obviously a problem with wages and getting good medical insurance these days.

Insurance agents need to explain to people that if they have Medicaid/Medicare, they often cannot get into a private treatment center. However, Medicaid/Medicare can only be used at certain treatment centers that accept it. Most of the 18,000 treatment centers in the USA do not accept this kind of insurance. In the future, the US government should explain insurance better.
