The Impact Of Fitting Chimney Caps In The Living Places

By Stella Gay

Housing design is what determines the physical appeal it has on people. A good design is that one that has the capability to ensure protection of the inhabitants as well as the well-being of the building itself. Modern models have incorporated the fireplaces and kitchen section within the main house. Proper mechanisms have been put in place to ensure using these sections do not fill smoke in the house. Chimneys have been fitted with chimney caps to protect the vents.

The chimney section of a house is usually hollow and joins downwards to the fireplace. Leaving this vent uncovered or completely open causes rain water to enter into the fireplace and can spread in the entire floor within the room. This entries may also be used by birds and other animals to enter into the house and this has adverse damages on the ceiling. In case of strong winds, the wind is able to force the smoke coming from the fire point downwards and it fills the room.

In order to avoid the damages likely to occur as a result of the given factors, architects have designed different models of the caps. They are available in different sizes and shapes to fit on various vents. They can be made of solid steel plate which are perforated at the edges or wire mesh.

During the caps purchase, a consideration should be made on the size of lid to be bought. The diameter for the pipe must be measured and this enables selection of the lid that correctly fits the intended part. They should have a large section of perforated parts that will enables passage of smoke while the upper part should be complete cover made of steel.

Various materials have been used to make the covers all over the world. Steel is however the widely used product because of its desired trait of high resistant to rust. Materials used for these purposes should be able to withstand rusting which is accelerated by the presence of smoke. Galvanization of steel is necessary to ensure long lifespan for the caps. Asbestos have also been used to design the covers since they also have high resistance to corrosion.

The costs associated with the chimney covers are diverse. Due to the various sizes that have been designed over time, pricing varies with the smallest one going at a cost of about $15. Steel caps are however expensive as compared to those made from other materials but their quality makes them more used. The installation cost is also very affordable.

Installation procedures on the lids are different depending on the type of cover being used. Some only require to be inserted into the vent and they hold perfectly. This makes removal for cleaning of this vent possible over time. Others may require use of adhesive or cement to make them stay in the desired positions.

Notable results have been realized from the establishment and installation of these covers. Smoke has been redirected away from the house avoiding rusting on the roof. Birds have also been kept away from domestication and breeding at the ceiling. It recommendable to use such covers in developing better living places.
