Discovering Sexual Surrogacy And Sex Therapy Monterey County

By Amanda Harris

In some cases, individuals can often lose the ability to become sexually aroused. When this occurs, it can be for a number of different reasons. As a strategy to improve sexual function and interest, Sex Therapy Monterey County can often provide a positive outlet for resolving these types of issues. In addition, individuals believing to have an addiction of the sexual nature can also find counseling and support from a sexual therapist.

The most common reason individuals seek out a sex therapist include aging illness, disability, lack of confidence, high sex drive, A-typical sexual interests and more recently, issues related to individuals identifying as non-binary. Whereas, there are also therapists of this nature whom work directly with members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Most modern therapists working in this area integrate psychological and medical methods into the counseling process. For example, if an individual is having impotency problems, the counselor may suggest the individual talk with a physician about prescribing Viagra. Whereas, if one is having problems with premature ejaculation, a prescription for Paxil might be an option. In most cases, the counselor still provides treatment as long as client continues to have issues in these areas.

In most cases, sex therapists are going to require the individual go through a series of medical and psychological exams and testing. For, the dysfunction could be due to a psychogenic or somatic basis. A clear example of this would be impotence which can be due to circulatory issues, Diabetes Type II, performance anxiety or sexual orientation. While most psychotherapy is a long-term process, most sex therapists offer assistance on a short term or long term basis.

While sex therapy can be provided by a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist, the individual must complete additional courses and acquire a certificate in psychotherapy in order to do so. Whereas, there may be times when sexual issues are a result of psychosomatic illnesses, if this is the case the mental health care provider can provide treatment as long as directed toward the illness and not sexual function. As one can see, this is a fine line in which mental health care providers and clients need to be cautious.

A new field has been developed known as sexual surrogacy which is different from sex therapy in that the surrogate participates in sexual encounters at the home of clients. In the process, the surrogate takes mental notes and provides insight on how an individual or couple can use new and different skills to enhance future encounters. As might be expected, the field of sex surrogacy has been extremely controversial since the practice began.

Sexual therapists and sexual surrogates provide two distinct and different services. For, sex therapy sessions are provided in a clinical setting with the therapist having no sexual contact with the client. Whereas, sexual surrogacy is based on the surrogate interacting with an individual or couple during sexual acts to examine and understand why sexual issues may be occurring.

Age can also contribute to a number of sexual issues such as impotency and premature ejaculation. For, as individuals age, hormones change. As a result, many lose interest in a number of activities which were once enjoyable, including sex. While this is the case, sex therapists have been able to assist women in regaining sexual desire either during or after menopause while assisting men in exploring the reasons behind, and treatment of, premature ejaculation or impotency.
